Hello my name is Folashade, I am college student at Prince Georges Community College and I feel like natural hair is not a fad because personally i have been natural all my life and didnt know it(if that is at all possible).I used to style my hair in braids all the time and really didnt know what to do with it when i took it out until high school.When I had recived my first (bad)perm in the 10th grade which slowly but surely took alot of my hair out to the point where I couldnt wear braids I thought I was going to die, but it took the the help of events like these,youtube,and constant reasearch for me to appreciate the love that my natural hair taught me to have for myself and for my hair.

Being natural has changed my life because it has given me confidence. You have to develop a thick skin when natural because you will get stares, negative comments, etc. However, you also become apart of the sisterhood. It’s so amazing how you can strike up with a stranger because you both are natural. I have had struggles in the beginning but I am enjoying the journey.

I think nowadays, natural hair is part fad, part awakening. Because so many people are going natural, it has allowed black women to wonder about their own bimonthly ritual of relaxing their hair. So, I expect to see some of the black women who are ‘fro-ed up to revert back to their relaxed ways, but hopefully, the majority of us are here to stay!
